Letter from Mr. Young, and Advice on Seeking Estate and Tax Planning

Dear Neighbor,

Many years ago when I was still in school,  I loved playing basketball – I could play it for hours.  Of course, basketball is a team sport, and it didn’t take long to realize the importance of teamwork and of having a plan of attack.   We always made sure we had a plan – we coordinated when and how we should drive in for a layup or take the 3 point shot.   Having teamwork and a good plan was always critical to winning.

Estate Planning and Tax Planning isn’t that different from basketball – having a capable lawyer on your team as well as a plan is critical for success.  After all, it’s not called Estate and Tax On-the-Edge-of-Your-Seat-Surprises.  In the world of Wills and Trusts, the game is played with real money and savings.  You might not be able to afford a loss. You don’t want to end up losing your house, going to Probate, or get stuck with hundreds of thousands of dollars in nursing care costs.  The stakes are extremely high and having a plan is more important than ever.

Growing up in Hawaii, a lot of parents had a plan – they taught their kids to save money and save even more by doing everything themselves.  While the plan worked at that time, the world we live in today is vastly more complex and complicated.  In short, it’s difficult to do everything ourselves nowadays.  For example, fixing your car used to be easy.  But nowadays, cars have become so complex that people have to hire someone to fix their car.  The same is true with Estate and Tax Planning.  The general practitioner attorney used to be able to handle all your needs, but not anymore.  Do-it-yourself guides or quick fix forms, which are now around the internet in the form of free fillable forms, may get you to ‘first base’ but who is going to see it through?

Nowadays, the specialized attorney is needed for particular legal issues.  Like doctors, would you go to a foot doctor for sore throat?  The Estate Planning, tax planning, and asset protection attorney has entirely different training, experience, skills, and knowledge than do divorce lawyers and personal injury attorneys.  The Estate planning attorney utilizes an area of law not typically taught in the law schools.  The Estate planning attorney spends many more hours delving in tax law than any other area of law.  The skills of the estate planning, tax planning, and asset protection attorney is specifically tailored to help protect people’s wealth.

I am dedicated to helping friends and neighbors and the rest of the community.  I hope to help you achieve your goals by tailoring a plan for you.  You may have concerns about unsettled family relationships, your children’s marriages, your health, or nursing home costs.

All of these are everyday concerns I hope to address with you, and get you to where you want to be.   I invite you to have a free and friendly consultation, to get to know you and your concerns, and let’s see what I can do for you.
